REMINDER: How to correctly submit FEP dental claims

July 15, 2026

While Regence serves as the local administrator for Federal Employee Program (FEP) plans, these plans are not Regence insurance products. The FEP is part of the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program and is managed nationally by the BlueCross BlueShield Association. If you are credentialed with Regence, you automatically participate in the Regence FEP plan—no separate contract or additional credentialing is required.

How to identify FEP members

  • Member IDs typically begin with the letter “R”.

What this means for your office

  • FEP benefits are determined at the national level.

  • Coverage and guidelines may differ from standard Regence plans.

  • Eligibility and benefits should always be verified before treatment.

Understanding this distinction will help ensure accurate billing and a smooth experience for your patients.

NOTE: When submitting FEP dental claims, please do not use the payer BCBS FEP Dental—this is a separate entity. Regence is a medical plan that includes some dental coverage. Claims must be submitted using the correct Regence FEP plan based on your patient’s state:

State

Correct Payer

Idaho

Regence BlueShield

Oregon

Regence BlueCross BlueShield

Utah

Regence BlueCross BlueShield

Washington

Regence BlueShield

Using the correct payer will help avoid claim delays and ensure accurate processing for your patients.
